Tilts operable ceiling panels at Wangfu Central Project open to the public

In another exciting and innovative operable architecture project, the TILT team were engaged by architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates to carry out a feasibility study based on concept renders they provided for an operable ceiling.
After this was successfully completed TILT entered a Design & Construct contract with Chinese builder Beijing Qiaoxin Decoration Engineering Co,. LTD to design, manufacture and supply for installation a series of automated ceiling panels for a footbridge in a brand new lifestyle retail destination, WF Central, in Beijing, China.
The developer, HongKong Land Holdings Limited, launched the soft opening of the prestigious centre yesterday.
The project involved thirty automated/suspended roof panels that slide away to reveal Audio/Visual equipment concealed above the panels. Particularly detailed drawings and images were required to overcome language barriers and the design offers an elegant solution which enables the space to be multi-functional, providing an appropriate aesthetic for daily use as a shopping centre, and increased functionality for special events.
In a reversal of what has become the norm – and a win for Australian manufacturing – the design and manufacturing of this project all occurred in Australia. 15 individual operable ceiling assemblies, each 12mx 2m were manufactured and tested in Newcastle, NSW and then shipped to China for installation.
TILT delivered this on behalf of HongKong Land Holdings Limited and installation occurred in November 2016. Several trips to China were required for meetings, site checks and to oversee installation and site integration was quite complicated with all other services in the ceiling cavity. We’re thrilled to see the finished development become open for the public to enjoy.
